The most crucial question for you as a writer when it comes to character behavior is as follows:

What are the deepest WHYs or real reasons underlying a character’s behavior?

This has always been a tough question with extremely elusive answers for people past and present, not least for creative writers. It is the understanding of these much deeper reasons for behavior, or just having a superficial grasp of them that largely determines if they can or cannot create original characters and then bring them to life within their story-line, as well as either delighting and entertaining the readers or boring and disappointing them. This is a definite major factor in whether your book is a success or a complete flop.

Imagine for a few seconds, if you as a writer of novels or plays, understood exactly what it is that will cause each of your characters to behave in the way they do before they make their debut into your story-line? Imagine if you just had discovered the well-kept secret method that famous writers of the past and present employ during the character creation process and continued to apply throughout their story-lines? The answer is, you would suddenly have the ability to bring your book to the next level of creative expression and appreciation.

Well, you don’t have to imagine having that ability any longer. The opportunity and the method to developing that crucial ability exists within the pages of ‘Character Creation for Creative Writers.’The ultimate goal of the ‘alternative approach’ taken in this book, is to equip the creative writer with the knowledge and understanding of how to avoid the pitfalls and problems encountered with the traditional approach to creating and developing characters. Some of the problems that suddenly become apparent is that you don’t have a deep understanding of a character. You randomly create and develop your character as you move through your story-line, and this always leads to inconsistencies with what you write about them, to a loss of logical flow, to a loss of focus on your themes, as well as facing the possibility and frustration of having to start again. Ultimately, these problems are all caused because you have started the character creation process from the outside and worked inwards. You can only ever achieve a superficial understanding of your character in this way.

But with the alternative approach as shown in this book, you begin the character creation process from within a central core of truths and work outwards, allowing you to project their motivations, values, perspective, expectations, mental processing, emotional states, reactions and actions. You will always have a solid reference point for each character throughout your story-line. In this way you overcome those traditional pitfalls and you always understand the WHYs of a characters behaviour.

To achieve this, the alternative approach includes four new methods of character creation, namely the division of a character into ‘two selves’ – the inner-self and the outer-self, a core of ‘ten truths,’ a ‘chain of events’ approach, and a scale called the ‘Awareness Level Scale.’

Three things also emerge from this alternative process. Firstly, a whole new character emerges ready to make their debut into your story-line. Secondly, a writer has a deep and continuous understanding of their characters, and thirdly, the whole process allows for more creative expression.

Don’t miss out on using this alternative approach to creating and shaping your characters.
