I think that it's become readers' jobs to leave reviews, because it helps authors you like get more recognition. However, it tends to slip my mind most of the time. Do you leave reviews?

Well, I think we do ;)

I don't think it is a reader's job to review. It is simply something that you can do to support authors, because there are so many places that require a book to have a certain number of reviews to access services or promotions.

I know that bookangel does reviews, but a lot of individuals don't. Some people don't realize that it is genuinely important and help authors, while others don't have the time.

I think the only thing that means that means I won't leave a review is if an author has put a begging request for one in the back of a book. One line perhaps, but I've seen three pages begging for one, and when you click off the end of the Kindle book, Amazon adds its own plea. The transaction I made with the author and Amazon was to give them money for the book, not to be obliged to spend time writing reviews or let them have my time and name for marketing purposes. If that plea is not there, then I will review if there was something to say about the book, which does not mean following the standard request of reviewing if "I liked it".

I do and I don't. I'm happy to review for the site, but if I am reading a book for pleasure it takes a little more to make me put something down. It would have to be a story I would sincerely recommend to a friend and there are not that many of them.

I've had a few book review blogs over the years and I found the time I put in was not worth what little readership I had. I'd rather do it for a site like this if it was something I really feel like sharing.

I haven't seen the beg for reviews like Tregaron mentions, but I've also been reading mostly print lately. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

I think it's strictly a personal choice. If you love the book and want to write the review, then do so. If the book was just so-so then you are under no obligation to write anything. It's a choice.
