Any new, amazing indie authors to check out?

I've been in a reading slump lately and would like to find someone new. An indie author that is new to the scene and hasn't started dialing it in is ideal. I like most genres, except for horror (sorry Reader).

An author I recently discovered is Jenny Twist. Her book The Owl Goddess looks at the Greek gods as if they were spacemen. I've heard the theory before, but it sounds like an interesting take.

I have been working my way through the Lucky Series by Deborah Coonts, but I am not sure if they count as indie. The second series I discovered recently was "Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus" which was submitted to the Stephen Memorial Awards. If you like Harry Potter, (or Harry Potter fused with Cozy mysteries), this series might be for you. It has a good villian, a great cat, and a hidden world of magic. I would have said this was adventure rather than horror - the villains do bad things, but then they are villains...

If you don't mind Y.A., H.L.Burke has never let me down yet. Her works are steampunk/fantasy, but the characterisation is good and she writes children and young adults believably without making them obnoxious.

I've wanted to read a book that was submitted for the contest and I love cats, so I believe I'll start with this one and then work my way through the others you two mentioned. Thank you Jordan and Reader for the suggestions. I've got a few days off coming up with plenty of time to relax with a good book or three.

"When the River still ran" Jack Chantegril. Not horror. Brilliant.

I just read the first book in the series and have started on the second. Thanks for the excellent recommendation. The gal sure has a great sense of humor, though I think she could do better when it comes to men.

The Dragon Riders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey should keep you busy for quite a while. This is one of my favorite authors and series. Fantasy, dragons, magic are all included.

You're exactly right Jessica. I misread the question. I don't know any new and exciting indie writers but I do like Anne McCaffery. So Sorry for the mistake.

I looked on Amazon and the storyline is different from that I usually try, so this should be interesting. I'm going to give it a go next. Thanks for the recommendation.

Donna, I've added Anne McCaffery to my wishlist as well. It never hurts to pile up authors that I've not tried before to pick up on a rainy day. Thanks!

Excellent recommendation, porridge. I started reading it yesterday and made myself late for work because I couldn't put it down. I'm emotionally invested - This better have a happy ending!
