For 2016 we're looking at putting a forum in. It's one of our patreon goals, but we might do it anyway. We're currently running the phpBB board, the club BBpress board, a proboard (largely dead), goodreads, and the comments system on the main site, and its getting a bit overwhelming.

It's going to be expensive, but we're proposing to buy vBulletin or Xenforo, which combine the best features for all and would use a lot less server space and make it easier to manage. All the users can be transferred automatically, but threads would have to be shifted manually (copy and paste) which would take time over christmas. RA have offered to manage the install for us.

    Feedback?

    Will we lose our posts?

Will custom titles be available? Finally? And why can't we just be on Facebook?

No, we will copy and paste them across. We'll keep the boards running in sync for a bit so if we miss anything let us know.

    Argh, Simulpost!

    1) We'll see. 2) As Bookangel isn't on Facebook, that would be difficult. We can't set up a club page without giving out personal details and after the way some authors reacted to reviews we aren't doing that.

I know I asked at the club, but I think it needs to be repeated for everyone else, are we still going to have to create threads for reviews? How are the comments going to work?

Each review and news should generate its own thread for comments when it is posted. We're going to try to link the posts to the threads so we can get rid of the wordpress comments system completely, along with the spam issues.

Well, from the technical side, vBulletin costs more, and we'd be happier going with Xenforo. Your current server can support it, so it's up to you.

Well as you can tell, we're trying out Xenforo. There is a thread under Site News called Forum Update for your opinions. Also, we'd like to introduce CatInASuit, our new Admin and IT guy for your non-book complaints.

There are a few more threads popping up on the proborads. Are you moving them?

I have used the Xenforo software before. The admins of the site really seemed to like it and it works really well. There are a few other forums that I visit that are also on Xenforo software. It is a well-liked forum software but I look forward to whatever you choose!

The move took place last year. You're using the new board, and I'm glad to hear you like it.
