Author Harrassment

I don't mean by reviewers. Has anyone seen
THE AUTHOR WHO CYBER-STALKED ME

by Jeremy Dunns. He's a British author who said another British author, Stephen Leather, has been harrassing him.

What he's alledging is horrifying, if its true.

 

Authors do act badly sometimes, so yeah it is believable.

Some of the goodreads reactions to bad reviews are amazing, in a trainwreck-sense. There was one on Big Al's books'n'pals a while back.

Some people just don't like any criticism of their work even when its justified.

Instead of learning and getting better, they have their head inserted up their backside.

 

It goes both ways. Some reviewers can be incredibly unfair, especially when they are sockpuppets of another author, and some authors can't take criticism. If only we could limit them to interacting with each other, it would provide so much entertainment for the rest of us.

 

That would be an cool site] sight. A load of high-falutin authors all taking potshots at each other while the rest of us get to sit back with some popcorn and watch them tear strips out of each other.

 

It's not so nice when they release bad books and have a go at the reviewers. It just makes reviewers quit and then there aren't so many for nice authors.

 

Guess the problem is that some authors just can't see how bad their book is, and if they've had all and sundry telling 'em how great it is, then they're gonna be upset when someone reviews it as dreadful.

Most review sites I've seen just prefer not to say anything bad about a book rather than risk it.

 

So why does bookangel give negative reviews?

 

I think its better you can have negative reviews, you can tell which books are good and which books are bad if you do.

Unless you are going to only review good books, in which case, what's the point.

 

Not receiving threats from authors? Sadly, we have done. It is why the reviewers remain pseudonymous and many reviews are group efforts.

Other users prefer to highlight the good books and hope that by ignoring the bad the bad books will go away. As authors can now buy Amazon reviews, that method fails.

The newspaper is a different case, due to restricted space. We only mention good books in the newspaper as the point is to bring books to wider notice and give Indie books an editorial review to quote. If a book is bad the author would not receive a review they would want to quote, and we would not want to bring attention to them, making it a waste of space.
