"Someone rare has written this very fine first novel: a writer with the liveliest sense of life, and the warmest, most authentic sense of humor. A touching book; and so funny, so likeable." Truman Capote,

Harper Lee has passed away age 89. To Kill a Mockingbird inspired so many that, though she is best known for that one title, her influence on literature and society is hard to state.

We have lost a rare person.

Umberto Eco died this morning aged 84. Could Bill Door go on holiday please? How many people do we have to lose this year?:(

A great loss to literature, and both will be missed.

I've read "To Kill a Mockingbird" and seen the film with Gregory Peck and its still one of the finest films there is.

I saw the film "Name of the Rose" and then was fortunate enough to find a copy of the original novel in the library. Good though the film is, it could never do that book justice.

We just lost two of the finest literary minds over the last couple of days.

OK, I haven't read anything by either of them, although I've seen the film Name of the Rose. The way writing goes though, the writers I do read have probably read and been influenced by them both, so it is a loss.
