    Well fuck.

Project Wonderful is closing its doors after 12 years of serving ads to comics and other fan sites...including ours.

Fortunately, our site is mainly supported by authors, but it's another long term site that is vanishing.

    We've had channelawesome.com, etiquetthell.com and now this.

Makes you wonder who is next...?!

I shall be in my reading room. Screaming into the void.

I am really annoyed about this closure. They were one of the few ad systems that supplied ads appropriate to the site, rather than trying to follow users via tracking cookies and guess what they wanted to see.

Is this going to be a problem for the site, 'cos I really don't like google ads:mad:.

But I've seen those ads everywhere, I wonder what they were doing wrong if they are having to close down.

Or is it the owners deciding to shut down because its no fun any more and they have made their money from it.

No idea what the next large scale site will be, so far this year it has been a shock. It's like 2016 all over again, only for websites instead of celebrities.

If you're looking for an alternative, there's the Brave system and their Basic Attention Token. Users using the Brave browser contribute a share of ad revenue to sites they visit in return for not seeing ads. It's brand new.

What about adding Google adwords or Outbrain or Taboola to the site.

Ok, I know they can be annoying as heck, but everyone seems to use them and some of the ads are vaguely amusing and they can be ad-blocked if you need to?

It sounds like it's more of the classic "local shop gets taken down by big chain stores" sort of problem.

I read somewhere recently (like maybe in the last year or so), that SVORN was like PW but for grownups...whatever that means.

Sadly SVORN is simply the Lijit network rebranded. They use Quantcast, which bookangel already does, but while they are great for US traffic and advertisers, they really aren't good for sites outside the US or that don;t get most of their traffic from the US.

Guess I should add one more the the deadsites list. I was on a place hosted by Zetaboards, and they got bought by Tapacrap Tapatalk in May.

Somehow I suspect you were not in favour of the decision::suss::. I'm not sure why:p?
