In just over one hundred years, indigenous African religions have dwindled. They were the religions of a majority of sub-Saharan Africans used for worshipping. Now they represent about 10 percent of the population. A Washington Times report showed that since 1900 Christian religions have grown from 7 million followers to about 450 million followers and keeps on growing. Participation in African Spirituality is dwindling. Pentecostals are persecuting followers of African Spirituality.
Let us recover our African Spirituality before it is forced into nothingness by other religions.
This devastating situation is a challenge to all Africans, in Africa and in the Diaspora. What makes the challenge even more dangerous is that centuries ago the African leaders, African royalty were themselves practitioners of African religious traditions. Nowadays the leaders do not participate in African Spirituality.
Africans resisted suppression of their spirituality for centuries. Today, their leaders look down, perhaps with disdain, on such practices. The 10 percent are on their own, without the protection or even the encouragement of their political leaders.

This book is a small attempt to make Diasporic Africans aware of the dreadful threat that the remaining 10 percent of Africans in Africa are facing, who worship according to an African religious tradition. They do not have the protection or even the encouragement of their political leaders.
Such a situation is not only a challenge to Africans on the continent. It is a challenge to all Africans. And we who live abroad must rise to such a challenge. Let us recover our African Spirituality.
