Skimming Poems in Autumn is Ian Weddle?s first published collection of poetry. He has been writing poetry since the age of 18yrs, some of the poems have been published in other publications.
The poems speak to a wide range of themes connected to loss and absence and the pursuit of meaning in the ordinary and mundane.
The poems are well crafted and resonate with natural rhyme and rhythm. Some of the poems are eerily atmospheric compelling the reader to stay in the moment.
The poets use of phrase and descriptive imagery is strikingly effective and at times shockingly incisive as in the poem The Death of Pasolini -stabbed through the brain as his arse smiled at the Italian coast other phrases such in the poem, Car Crash ? Winds, Glasgow kissing the mocking rain and again in the poem The Loss Adjuster – “Tall, sharp suited moving with practiced grace” are brilliant, and other poems the descriptive imagery is strikinglyeffective.
The poems areenchanting, and the poets wit and word play has a deft touch, makingthe ordinary and familiar seem so extra-ordinary particularly in the poem Searching for God in Sauchiehall Street one, where the poet is sensing and groping for the divine behind the ordinary.
Ian Weddle was born in the Gorbals district of Glasgow and is part of a large family of 6 brothers and one sister. He was previously editor of the Scottish art magazine Styx He has had several jobs ranging from apprentice heating engineer, salesman, lumberjack (one day), kitchen porter, social worker, university lecturer and freelance journalist.
Ian Weddle currently works as an independent social work consultant and lives part of the year in the small village of Neo-Chorio on the Greek island of Crete.
