What kind of reader are you?

I've met all kind of readers. Some stick to their favorite genres and authors and only try something new if it hits a bestseller list, while others will give just about anything that sounds interesting a try.

So what type of reader are you?

I will read everything. I like to try out new genres because you never know what you will like unless you try it. I have learned that I like books that most people don't. I read everything from biographies to graphic novels. What about you Jordan, what kind of reader are you?

Julia, which biographies have you liked? It's admirable that you're so well read.

I've branched out quite a bit thanks to my book club, but if left to my own devices I stick with the same old, same old. I'm just not a very adventurous person.

Ellie I have like most of the ones I read. I like to read about people and their lives. The last one that I read was Pioneer Girl, Laura Ingalls Wilder autobiography. It was a good read because I read her books growing up. Right now I am reading Lion: A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley, it's an amazing book and I can't put it down!

I stick with romance for the happy endings:).

Julia, I read a little bit of everything though I do go through phases.

Right now I'm working through a couple of romance authors. I was a judge for an award back in June and it got me hooked on a couple of new series. I'm also starting a non-fiction title for my book club.

Jordan, what series are you reading right now? I could use a little romance in my life! Sometimes I like to binge read a whole romance series just to take me away from the day to day life. If I can't find the romance in real life I might as well find it in a book!

I mainly read non-fiction, as fact often tends to be stranger than fiction. Otherwise there's a lot of sci-fi and short stories in what I read. I like learning, even if it is new ideas, concepts and outlooks rather than facts.

  9. Now that surprises me! What subgenre do you go for? Werecreatures, cops, cowboys, triads, pirates, historical? I have a thing for gay male romance myself and the indies write it best.

I'm reading The Sierra Legacy series by Claire McEwen and the Cottonbloom Novels by Laura Trentham. The links to go Fantastic Fiction and list all the books in order. In both series, the setting remains the same, and the focus is on a new couple in each book. I started both with the 3rd book since that's what I was sent for the contest, but I had no problem picking up threads of the other stories.

I read anything but erotica and I avoid romance. I've tried it but I find that plot, character, and writing, which are what I like in a book, are often lacking and I get bored. My tendency to flip past the sex scenes to find something interesting (like a monster attack, and I specifically mention the notorious Night of the Kraken of "less a review and more an objection" fame) does not help. Otherwise, I will try most books once, particularly should I be at risk of running out of reading material.

I'm glad you linked to that Reader. Hilarious doesn't even begin to describe that review. And to think I avoided that Dinosaur thread because I thought it was about a children's book. I read some of your quickie romance reviews and they were rather catchy. You can micro review like no other. About how many books do you read a year?

That's terrible that you can't get them in bookstores.

It's frustrating that romance gets a bad rap when there's so much variety! There's a ton of genre crossing and subgenres. The more I learn about it as a whole, the more interesting it's becoming. I recently learned of a bookstore in California that's a romance only bookstore. It's appropriately called The Ripped Bodice. ::lol::

  15. Jessica, I see what you mean. I'm surprised they aren't in shops since romance is so popular. Do you have a favorite author from this group? I might try one on for size.

Jordan, that is the perfect name for a romance only bookstore. Too funny!

I usually like anything with romance in it, no matter what the sub genre or main genre is. However, I did recently start The Iron Druid Chronicles which doesn't have much romance in it, and I enjoy it a lot.

I'm usually passed the romances to review because otherwise Reader has to read them and gets cranky.

In general, I will happily read most things, as long as it has a good plot to keep me occupied.
