What's the best book-related gift you've ever received or given yourself?

A friend of mine gifted me Harry Potter Loot Crate, which is a subscription box with only HP related stuff. I especially enjoyed the one that focused on my house. It included a gym bag and a beanie with the Ravenclaw crest. I also have Snape's wand in pen form.

Sounds like you racked up, Jordan! What a thoughtful gift!

I've gifted a rare first edition that was hand signed by the author. The best I've received was when my husband took my grandmother's poems and short stories and had them made into a book for me.

  3. Jordan, that sounds like a great gift. I like subscription boxes myself. I'm going to watch this thread carefully for future gift ideas.

The best gift I've received was all about cat behavior. It was given to me after a stray moved himself in and I rushed him to the emergency vet because he was slowly blinking. I was sure something was stuck in his eyes. I was dumbfounded to learn that it's a loving gesture that cats do. I've since passed the book on to another new cat owner.

What an incredible gift, Ellie Jane, and one that can continue to give! A friend of mine's great-great aunt wrote a memoir that included information about the family as well. The crazy part is that I'm who's read it. She was fascinating and reading about historical events from such a personal perspective was amazing.

LOL. ::rofl:: What a great story! I could use a book on cat behaviour! Mine seems like a total wackadoo. Just last night he fell asleep slumped over the edge of the couch, head toward the floor. It didn't look comfortable but he was snoring away.

Used to love getting book tokens as a kid, so I could go out and spend them all sorts of things.

I received a similar gift one year. My mother had a recipe book made from all her and my grandmothers recipes. She even had photocopies of the handwritten recipes in my grandmother's handwriting. My sisters and I loved it and it is my favorite book now! Even though I don't use it much because I am a horrible cook!

@Julia that sounds like an outstanding gift! It's a bit of family heritage that will never be forgotten. I call these gifts from the heart. I always cherish them the most.

@Kindler what did you end up buying with your tokens?

I give myself one day every year to go to the local bookstore. There's coffee and tea there and it always smells so good. I take as long as I want and look at anything I want and just immerse myself in books for most of the day. Of course I have to have a cup of coffee too and usually come out with a stack of purchased books.
