Do you all set some kind of book/reading goal for yourselves each year? I try to hold myself to something literature-related. Usually, it's about reading a certain number of books or exploring a different genre. This year, I'm going to try to write detailed reviews for each and every book I read. Anyone else have a literary goal for 2018?

I've had a lackluster reading year, more accurately a lackluster year. I'm tempted to set my usual goal to read x number of books during the year since it's easy, though I may need to think smaller and just commit to reading something that's not internet based every day.

I've never actually had to set goals where my reading is concerned, but it sounds like a very good idea to do this and put those goals down on paper.

I read totally for pleasure these days. Although I don't set reading goals, I finish one and pick up another immediately. Some times I have 2 or 3 books going at once.

Reading goals got started for me when I found various reading challenges on book blogs that I followed. Sometimes they were crazy, like read 7 books in 7 days (accomplished btw), but it helped me stretch my comfort zone. Then I got crazy ambitious and read 125 in a year. That was exhausting and I don't recommend it unless you have a good memory.

Mostly now I set the goal out of habit.

I don't necessarily need them to get me reading, but sometimes it can get me to read things outside of my "comfort zone" or break out of my usual trends. I have a bad habit of reading the same kinds of books and then not even realizing I've found myself in a rut. So this can be a good remedy for that. 7 books in 7 days is quite the accomplishment, Jordan!
