I'm a Londoner too, I am sure there's quite a few on the site. Best of luck with your writing. If you are aiming to get published there's traditional publishing of course, but many of us have gone the independent route. There are lots of writing groups in London, I was a member of Newham Writers Workshop for quite a few years. I did courses at City Lit in Holborn in poetry, playwriting and fiction. Quite expensive these days though, but you do meet other writers and can gauge your standard. In your shoes, I'd look for a local writing group.
