Improvements on Spam Handling

Over the last few weeks we have had issues with a flood of spammers signing up. Manually vetting them, even through Spamcop and Stopspam, is not perfect.

We have now changed this system so that new members' posts go into a moderator queue automatically. Once a user has had enough posts approved, manual approval will be removed.

While this may be inconvenient for new users, and I apologise for this, it should reduce the amount that gets through to the boards and reduce the workload on the moderators.
  2. This is a laudable move to screen dubious new users who turn into spammers and scammers.

Though it's labor some task for moderators but it's beneficial to the site. Good job.

We are still getting floods of them, so we are still seeing what we can do.

It looks like the sign up process was a little easy, so we've been changing it.

The new method appears to have worked. We were getting several hundred an hour for the last few months, which has been drowning out legitimate posts. Since the second update change last night, there have been zero.

We will be recovering any posts that were missed or affected by this over the next few days, so please be understanding if your posts have not been coming through. This mainly affects posts by brand new users and those in the Founder usergroup.
