Just a few which I encounter regularly. Does anyone else have any more to add?

I thought I knew of a few more but the only other one that springs to mind at the moment is:

    Where is the MAC from?

I'm only familiar with the computing one used to address computers.

@CatInASuit A MAC used to be required when switching to a different broadband provider. The code contained about 10 or 12 digits and you had to request one from your existing provider and then give that code to your new provider. You might not have ever needed to go through this process (I only ever had to do it once in my life) and the MAC itself became redundant a few years ago, thank goodness!

There is one that is used on so many of the websites across the world in plain sight.

    PHP = PHP: Hypertext Processor

Thanks @Lily. It's not a process I have ever had to go through, so that's probably why I missed it.

Not quite the style you suggest, but "Please RSVP". RSVP means "Réspondez s'il vous plaît", or translated, "Reply if you please".

"Please reply if you please" sounds either nervous, extremely polite, or simply rather odd.

  11. DC Comics = Detective Comics Comics

Had to check this one cos I thought it was named after Washington DC, but it fits.

Well, off the top of my head, I can name BIR, which means Bureau Of Internal Revenue.

GUI Interface = Graphical User Interface Interface

  14. All of those things mentioned above I have encountered them especially their redundancy or repetition of terms.

Why people aren't aware of them? Or are they stressing them or exaggerating them?

It's because most people don't even known what the acronym is and just use it without thinking.

Do you have any phrases to add?

    Some excellent examples here!

I have another couple to add which I encountered this week:

VAT tax = value added tax tax

RAM memory = random access memory memory

^^ This one is actually in the OED E:sweatsmile:::lol:: (Not really surprising, given the downward spiral the OED has been on for several years now)

    OED fail
