ARCHIVE StarBucks or Costa? (Or Cafe Nero or...)

Whether you're writing, reviewing or just sitting down with a book over lunch, which is your favourite coffee shop?

 

I only have a Cafe Nero near me, sorry.

 

Ok, so let's be less literal. What coffee shop/tea room/cafe do you like reading in?

 

How about the pub?

 

The only pub in the country with a reading room?

Costa. I virtually live in it.

 

Another Cafe Nero person here.

 

Costa. I have a very full club card.

 

There's a little indie cafe down by us that does a lovely cream tea. I like reading there, but oh dear it gets expensive.

Otherwise the Costa is nearest.

 

Don't any of these cafes get a bit annoyed that you're just taking up space? Paying customers could have those tables.

 

I am a paying customer. Don't make me show you my Costa points balance.

 

My local said they didn't feel like a proper cafe until they got a tame writer.

 

Strangely our local Costa has no problems with a table's worth of readers (and editors) taking a table for a day and simply asking the server to keep them coming. Mind you, we go through quite a bit of coffee.

It is cheaper than an office, and much nicer.

 

Doesn't anyone on this thread drink at Starbucks?

 

Not here, I'm afraid. It is too noisy, and our local always feels very rushed. They just want you to drink and leave.

 

Well, you're in London. Guess you get to share with a bunch of lunching bankers.

 

I know exactly what you meant by that and sadly, you're exactly right.

 

It's a Costa for me, although I often wonder about getting a proper coffee maker.

Well, if you do like Starbucks, they've just added a Coconut Milk option to their lattes.
