Do you enter writing comps?

I have a friend who loves writing and is always entering those competitions where you pay for each poem or story submitted. So far she hasn't won anything but you have to be in it to win it, right? Does anyone here enter this type of contest? Any winners?

 

I enter any competition that I find as long as it's free. I don't think that it's fair to make writers pay to submit their work, but if your friend is alright with it, then I guess it's OK. I've never won anything either, but that will never stop me from trying.

 

I've entered one or two in my lifetime, but I never really had the expectation of winning. I don't know why, though, because I do have confidence in myself and in my work.
