FINALIST RWNZ EXCELLENCE IN ROMANCE AWARD
One summer could change everything. . .
When two hopelessly mismatched people share a love for art, a passion for love and a city like Venice, nothing is truly impossible…or is it?
Maggie’s life isn’t going like she planned. When toxic stress levels force dramatic changes, she grabs a chance at a fresh start. But her holiday in Venice begins with disaster. She finds herself rescued by a tall, dark, impossibly wealthy Italian man named Mauro.
The two are completely unlike–Maggie leads by her head, and Mauro listens to his heart. While each has compelling reasons to stay apart, the magic of art and beauty of Venice brings them together.

New York lawyer Maggie Green is on the verge of burnout and is ordered by her doctor to take a vacation and unwind before she has a heart attack. But her holiday in Venice gets off to a disastrous start when her luggage and purse are stolen by thieves. She is rescued by Mauro Toffola, one of the most eligible bachelors in Venice, who lets her stay in his house to recover before she can go to the embassy. Initially aloof towards her, he has his own secrets and promises he has made and despite her allure, he must not give in. But as they spend the next few days together, Maggie cannot help but be enticed by Mauro. In the same way his feelings for her continue to grow and both must make a decision about what they truly want from their lives.
A romance novel in Venice featuring two people looking for something more in their life while still trying to ignore their desires. The plot is simple and starts slowly as they become used to each other as their mis-steps endear themselves to each other. Only the two main characters are fleshed out in anyway but as we are only following Maggie and Mauro this make sense. They both start off confident, but set in their ways and having to learn and understand what will make them happy. The setup for the story is a little contrived and I'll be honest that it it is also slow to begin with. After a while, the writing finds it's groove and the determined about-face by each character becomes more endearing than annoying. The writing manages to convey all the feelings from annoyance to embarrassment to love and allows you to see how they feel. Some of the plot is a little contrived and comes out of place, but it does help keep moving the plot onwards.
The formatting of the book is fine, it's well laid out and easy to read. Each chapter takes one or other viewpoint and it takes a few moments to work out in which chapter who is the lead for it. I didn't notice any issues with the editing and spelling and it was easy to read through.
Overall, it's a good read, definitely one for fans of the genreRating: 4Quicklink to this review
