Introducing Grafor – Extract From Chapter 2 – Dragon Girl
Sunlight sparkled on his red scales, scattering red and gold light around the clearing. Against the natural greens and browns, Grafor’s ruby colouring made him look like a wound in the land. Such a dark thought made Arisha uneasy. She shook her head to clear it—there was too much darkness creeping into her world and she must not contribute to it by adding her own.
As she bent down to pick up another handful of water, a flash of white on the other side of the pool made her look up. She saw the shape only for a moment—its colour and outline were unmistakable. She heard a rustling in the undergrowth as it moved away, the muted sound of hooves on moss, before silence returned.
‘Freya,’ she muttered under her breath. She heard Grafor stir behind her and raise his head. ‘The time has come!’ she called to him. Within her, feelings of anxiety and hope fought for prominence. She calmed herself with her warrior’s resolve, and stood up. Grafor in an instant was beside her.
