Devon is a young woman that has been married for the last year, when she suddenly comes home from a meeting abroad to find that her husband has been killed, and that the killer is still in the house.

This leads to her fighting for her life, when something otherworldly comes to the rescue, which leads them to a fight with a vampire assassin Clan that will not give up until they have what they want.

The vampire named Eric wants the same thing from Devon that the assassin clan does, only for very different reasons.

They will have to trust each other, fight alongside each other and eventually fall into each other’s arms in a quest for the very survival of mankind.

Devon Myles is returning home from an archaeological expedition and looking forward to seeing her husband after such a long absence. To her horror, she finds him stabbed to death in the master bedroom and that the killer, Lewis, is still in the house. Lewis has been sent to retrieve an artefact and will torture and kill her to find it. His progress is stopped by Eric, and as they fight, Devon realises they are vampires. Both of them are looking for the same thing, but Eric is there to protect her and the rest of humanity from the dreadful fate that arise if the Consortium, the rulers of the vampires, were to gain control of it. On killing Lewis, Eric flees with Devon knowing they will be hunted down. There only chance is to find the artefact first and the only person who knows where it is, is Devon. Only she has no idea what it is they are looking for with the only clue being that it is something her father would have told her about. With time running out and the Consortium closing in, can Devon find it and help Eric save humanity.

This vampire romance is heavy on the vampires but a little short on the romance and that is just the start of the problems. Happily married, Miss Devon Myles, keeping her father's surname, seems to be married to a plot device with a first name and little else of note. It certainly appears that way when she falls in love with our lead after just a few hours, her husband's murder, being targeted for death and running away from her entire life to survive. But she has enough love in her heart for both...yes, totally fated, because there is no build to it at all. The plot is started off fine, coming back to a murder and being forced to flee a terrible situation had me hoping for something interesting. The interrupting, mid-book, almost obligatory, sex scene derailed this to the point where it spirals off into what I think the author wanted to write about, sexy vampires, and leaving the rest of the plot to manage itself and be wrapped up quickly and simply so they can go off together. I would not have minded if the writing was engaging, and to be fair it was up front, but when she wakes from a dream about her husband to find herself pleasuring the lead instead and decides that she is happy to continue on, then I begin to despair for the lack of realism. Yes, I am aware of the irony that the story contains vampires. From then on, mysteries are quickly solved, other vampires defeated and the book ends. The writing itself was easy to read, although there are some spelling errors and inconsistencies in the text. It was also well laid out and neatly edited. I was surprised to find that this did not contain any links for the author or their other works, which I have almost become accustomed to.

Overall, for such a strong start, I'm feeling disappointed with the way it went. Yes, I understand it is a vampire romance, but while the plot has several influences, it was holding it's own and could certainly have been a more complete story and ending in the way it did was a shame. While it is likely to be aimed at a very specific audience, and for them it is an ideal coffee break to giggle over, it is shame that it's potential is wasted.

Addendum one: I have just realised that the author actually fridged the husband
Addendum two: Devon Miles will always remind me of Knight Rider. It made reading this story hilarious in parts.
