Lost and Found, Stories of Christmas is a collection of stories written by Reverend Wendell Mettey for his congregations. While written over a span of years, the stories have a timelessness that appeals to readers of all ages. These simple stories share the emotional journey of characters whose struggles with doubts, fears and resentments cause them to lose hope, but who ultimately find a great gift through the discovery of the true meaning of Christmas. Readers will recognize their own anxieties and concerns in the reactions of the characters and celebrate with them their triumph as they discover the joy of giving… the true spirit of Christmas.

Reviews:

"Overall this is a short book of Christmas stories, heartwarming, sweet, and designed to remind people that there are good people in the world. Perfect for the season."

This book is a set of short stories set around Christmas. The themes are not unusual, for example, men who overhear a child's prayer and make it come true, a family who lose a valued possession but replace it with something better, the pastor's wife who finds her calling, etc, but they are nicely written. There are religious overtones throughout, which should not be surprising as the author is a Reverend. A wry tongue-in-cheek humour shows in places, such as two angels trying to come to terms with a computer, but overall these are touching feel-good stories designed to pull on the reader's heartstrings. Some readers may find them a little too sweet, but for anyone who likes heart-warming stories, e.g. "Chicken soup for the soul" these are enjoyable.

The stories are followed by a brief bio, covering the author's career in the church and then the non-profit he established, which makes for fascinating reading. Finally the last 10% is a preview of "Those who met the master", another book by this author. These are several point of view pieces from religious figures, written in first person and covering topics like Mary coming to terms with her son's probable divinity and likely fate.

There are no issues with formatting, and the language is simple and direct. As a set of feel-good stories, they would be great to show children the meaning of Christmas.

Overall this is a short book of Christmas stories, heartwarming, sweet, and designed to remind people that there are good people in the world. Perfect for the season.
