The antique shop Paul works in is burgled, Benjamin the owner is missing, and the only thing taken is an unassuming portrait of a young girl.
Alice, an insurance investigator, turns up with tales of masterpieces stolen by the Nazis. She’s been on the trail of the painting, Anna, for some time. As she outlines it’s past it becomes apparent that the painting is linked to his own past and to Benjamin’s.
They set off to find Benjamin and find out if the painting is just a family portrait, of nothing but sentimental value, or a masterpiece lost in the ravages of the war.
Their investigation draws the attention of some unsavory characters. A Nazi war criminal and art collector, set on getting his hands on Anna at any cost, and an assassin for the Russian Mafia.
Paul struggles to come to terms with the ruthlessness of the people he encounters in this alien world of murderers and gangsters…and then there’s Alice. The experiences they share serves to bond them to each other, but like the missing painting, Alice is not all she appears to be.
All the parties involved are drawn to where it all began. Prague, a boundary between East and West where both sides are pitted against each other one last time in a climatic showdown.
