Can a Small Town Lawyer Get Lucky?

Atlanta’s billionaire heiress Annie Hartford has no desire to marry a man she does not love; but her controlling father has been calling the shots for his 29 year-old daughter her entire life. This time he has pushed Annie too far.

With minutes to spare before she is to walk down the aisle in front of 600 guests, Annie is forced to make a decision. She hijacks the family limo, only to have it break down in small town Pinckney, Georgia. Annie, who has never wanted for anything, suddenly finds herself homeless, penniless, with only the clothes on her back, a designer wedding gown and diamond tiara.

~~~
Small town lawyer and restaurant owner Sam Ballard has been unlucky in love, and the last thing he needs is a red-hot blonde in a short waitress uniform who seems hell-bent on breaking every dish in his Dixieland Café. Still, he can’t very well fire her, she has won the hearts of everyone in town.
Can rich girl Annie find happiness living in a garage apartment, wearing second-hand clothes, and making her way around town on a borrowed bicycle? As for Sam, can he put his past behind him and trust that Annie won’t run home to daddy when her new life presents one obstacle after another?
Annie Hartford is the only daughter of a billionaire and about to get married to as man she despises. Instead of going through with it, she runs and winds up in a small town with no money, no papers and no idea what she is going to do next. But the people of Pinckney are friendly and before long she has found a waitress job and a place to stay. She has also caught the eye of Pinckney's most eligible bachelor, Sam Ballard, who owns the local cafe she now works in as well as being the town's lawyer.  Annie now has to decide what she wants to do with her life, and whether that should include Sam, as well as working out what to do about her father who put her in this position in the first place. But Sam was also jilted at the altar and his feelings towards her are certainly mixed and he has to decide whether he wants to go through the pain of falling in love again.
I wasn't sure what to make of See Bride Run as a romantic comedy when I first started reading it, but the more I read the more I began to enjoy it. The characters are in Pinckney are perhaps overly nice, I may be a little jaded, but the amount of help a stranger gets out of nowhere may be a little out of proportion. Regardless they are a differing and unique bunch with some standout and some others introduced and then not seen again. The plot is as obvious as you think it might be, but that doesn't take away from the fact it is well told with all its ups and downs, and its nice to see that the path of love is not smooth. The twists are fairly well signposted, but are well handled by the story when they do arrive. The style of the story is fairly flowery with plenty of descriptions, and I didn't notice any major editing mistakes as I read through it. I finished it off in one sitting as while the story is not short, it does pull you along cleverly from one situation to the next.
In general, it was an enjoyable romance that fans of the genre should look up.
