“Tahrir” is a fiction book about revolution, which took place in Egypt in 2011. It’s a story about Egyptians and foreigners who strive for changes and protest against the authorities. They are different and their lives differ, but they are united in the call for freedom.

The concept of freedom is the essence of the book. Every character understands freedom in their own way and for each of them freedom has its own meaning. Egyptians seek freedom from discrimination of their rights, poverty and injustice; for foreigners, revolution has a halo of romance, novelty, a means to self-assert and spread their own concepts and philosophy.

The love story is another essential part of the book. The love affair between an English woman, who joins the revolution and is swept away by ideas to change the world, and a Russian man, who is a firm believer in peaceful and evolutionary solutions to social conflicts, is tested by a turbulent sequence of events. In order to be coupled, they have to make a choice – do they sacrifice their love or their ideals?

“Tahrir” is not only a book about a revolution. It’s also about the crisis of modern capitalism, spiritual quest and complexity of the world, where each character tries to find his own place.

Vivid descriptions of Egyptian nature, architecture, traditions, the way of life, food, atmosphere and protests allow the reader to submerge into the flavour of this exotic country and be an intrepid traveller, witnessing unprecedented events.
