...Expect an enjoyable romp, rather than a gritty spy thriller. By the second page it was obvious this doesn't take itself too seriously...That said it's short, funny and entertaining, but definitely for action fans more than mystery....

Two married detectives go to Montevideo to celebrate a friend’s promotion to police chief, only to find the corpse of an acquaintance in their hotel room. This isn’t unusual for them, but it quickly spirals into spies, intrigue, jealousy and a tangled political web.

This is a very nicely presented ebook. It’s structured as seven short chapters, written in first person from the husband’s point of view. The writing style is generally clear, characters nicely differentiated, and I didn’t spot any major typos or spelling issues. It is book five in a series but you can quite happily read it stand alone – I did.

Expect an enjoyable romp, rather than a gritty spy thriller. By the second page it was obvious this doesn’t take itself too seriously: the leads had bet on how long it would take them to find the first corpse, then commented they were looking forward to leaving their one year old with his nanny – a navy SEAL. I was entertained, although to be honest it didn’t manage to keep my interest all the way through: while generally nicely paced, there were a few slower patches in the middle before it picked up towards the end.

It gets a three. It’s a good short read, but there’s not much to it. That said it’s short, funny and entertaining, but definitely for action fans more than mystery.
