...This is a very short story, but sci-fi fans will enjoy it, but so will anyone who is fond of short stories, or psychology and dilemmas....

Based on the well-known psychology experiment, this sets it in a post apocalyptic prison where two men are sentenced to death. One is a warrior, one is not, but in one hour they are going to fight to the death – unless they choose not to.

The short story manages world-building, character development and establishes the situation purely through two people talking in a cell, and the author has a spare and extremely readable style. It’s an enjoyable short, with a nicely ambiguous ending in the style of “The Lady and the Tiger” that adds a lot to the impact.

I will be honest, I probably wouldn’t pay money for something this short, but as a free introduction to the author’s style and work it is great. It would not disgrace any anthology the author chose to submit it to. Sci-fi fans will enjoy it, but so will anyone who is fond of short stories, or psychology and dilemmas.
