Lillim's mother likes to play games, games that her daughter hates since it means leaving her having to escape alligators, death traps, and in this case tied up in a house full of vampires as a punishment for wearing jeans instead of a uniform.
The writing is atmospheric and you get a feeling for who Lillim is, and who her mother is in the first few paragraphs. As you might have guessed from my synopsis above, those few paragraphs also left me with an urge to shake her mother firmly by the throat...
It's so short it is hard to say anything about the plot without spoiling it, so I won't. This isn't so much a story as a single scene from a story: she's in the cellar and it is the story of how she will escape, or not. On the other hand as a free read it is a good introduction to the world, the characters, and the author's writing style which creates a good atmosphere and draws the characters out quite clearly. The ending feels abrupt, although the story is told and it is hard to see how it could continue.
Paranormal fans might like this short story, particularly urban fantasy readers.
