In my years on the farm, I found that many people think of any barn along the road as a good place to drop their unwanted cats. Most often these cats are not spayed or neutered and are pregnant with unwanted kittens. Farms are owned by farmers who have to care for the cat which was so callously dropped off. They get the cat shots and feed them. Many of these cats are indoor cats who have no idea how to survive without their cushy couch and a litter box. They are usually horrible at catching mice and end up hurt in barn cat fights. If you have an unwanted cat, please take it to a shelter where it has a hope of getting a home or where it will at least be euthanized humanely. Being hurt in barn cat fights, or being eaten by a coyote is not the end your want for your pet. Once upon a time, you wanted him. At the very least, if you are going to drop your cat at a barn, ask the farmer first.
