Dwight D. Eisenhower gave the United Sates a warning about the economic and social abuse of power when he talked about the military industrial complex in January of 1961. We would be a much better nation if he had also provided us with a warning about the political industrial complex. The same abuse of social and economic power and influence now threatens the very fabric of our democracy. This non-fiction work describes our national challenge as seen from the eyes of a county Democratic Party chairman in rural North Carolina. The problems he identifies are as applicable to our largest cities and smallest towns and are issues we ignore at our own peril.
