Ask any cop and they’ll tell you the most difficult death to investigate is that of a child: accidental death or misadventure, infant, toddler or teen. Makes no difference because every child is someone’s daughter or son. But if the death of a child is tragic, the murder of a child is obscene.
Children are the most precious members of our community and also the most vulnerable: natural born victims upon which adults are capable and only too willing to project their anger, frustration, humiliation and fear. And while anyone might have reason to kill a child, they might just as likely have no reason at all.
Darkness Falls is a true story of ritual abuse, suicide and murder. It is a story of local government and law enforcement officials who for over a period of forty years not only looked the other way but participated willingly to cover-up crimes perpetrated by colleagues, friends and even family members. Though many of the guilty have passed on, many enjoy the blessing of living well into old age. With the assistance of family and no-holds-barred legal representation many continue both to evade justice or to pay compensation to their many victims.
After an estimated cost of up to one hundred million dollars and numerous confidential settlements, a government inquiry refuses to this day either to acknowledge the abuse or to assign blame.
This book is based on events as told to the Author by a former member of the Special Investigations Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police.
