An Empowerment Journey is much like our very own Heroes Journey, finding light after experiencing darkness, embracing all sides of us; light, dark, & otherwise. It is about finding or reclaiming our voices and finding that the hero we were looking for was always. They are the reflection we see in the mirror or in the depths of the pool of life. There is strength within us that no one, not even we, can often fathom. As an Empowerment Coach who teaches Empowerment Self-Defense, and as a woman, I wanted to impart the tips, tools, strategies, & choices within this workbook as a guide, with questions for added reflection & contemplation. Learning Empowerment Self-Defense has been crucial in my life & that of my clients in 125 countries across the globe. I truly believe what you will find in this book is relevant and crucial for everyone, & particularly for women, girls, and communities in need who face a higher threat of gender-based violence. Women’s Empowerment & Women Helping Women could not be more important in the current global landscape. This workbook is here to enhances your training in self-protection, boosts confidence and self-esteem, and improves body image. It equips individuals with skills to handle risky or challenging situations confidently.

Unlike traditional self-defense that focuses on martial arts, empowerment self-defense addresses specific issues like assault, abduction, domestic violence, trafficking, & harassment. It goes beyond physical confrontations to include micro-aggressions, gaslighting, & boundary violations. This training fosters a sense of security & control, encouraging continuous awareness to identify potential hazards and make informed decisions.

Is this just a women’s self-defense workbook? No. This workbook is helpful for all genders. As a woman, I have seen the overwhelming impact this training, I have accumulated over the last 23 years, as vital, life altering, & life-saving. I would not be the person I am today without all of the training I have received. In the workbook, I share where my training is from, who has influenced my work, along with sharing insight as an instructor in the field. As an empowerment coach, it is my sincere wish that you take these tools to apply to your everyday life, in all situations.

Empowerment self-defense is about standing in your power, preventing violence, neutralizing threats, safely escaping danger, & what to do after events occur. It includes tools for healing from trauma, whether physical or not. This approach emphasizes verbal assertiveness & boundary-setting, using game-based and trauma-informed learning.
