A tale of loyalty, betrayal… and the painful cost of doing the right thing.
Sixteen year old Isabella lives in 19th century India where her father is missing in action. With her street-urchin friend Midge, she sets out on a mission to find him, whilst delivering an vital malaria cure on the way. But when the two get caught up in the malevolent plans of a diamond mogul, everyone’s fate depends upon Isabella. She can only save her friend and the countless sick who are in jeopardy if she can find the courage to put others before herself….
“Parry’s descriptions are as varied as they are rich, from the scents of Abhaya’s Indian healing herbs to the sounds of London’s bustling streets and the opulence in the British royalty. A sizeable cast of beautifully developed, memorable characters makes solving the mystery even more deliciously puzzling, and readers will be guessing to the surprising end.
Imaginative and touching; like India, a sparkling jewel in the crown.”
Kirkus Reviews, October 2012.
“Isabella Rockwell’s War offers an enticing blend of an historical novel, nineteenth century England, strong-willed heroines, and/or real life fairy tales.”

Terrific and fast paced middle grade read, perfect for lovers of The Secret Garden and The Little Princess March 22, 2014

…I admit that I got behind on my reading and so I didn’t pick up this book until a few days ago. I’m hitting myself, because this is one of the gems in the self publishing world. The tone of the book reminds me of a mix of The Secret Garden and The Little Princess. It’s been a while since I read a middle grade book, but this is one that doesn’t dumb down the story for its readers. The pacing is great, and I really liked Isabella as a protagonist, who carries the story with her spunkiness. The twists are great too– I definitely didn’t suspect the right person! …
Overall, a really great middle grade read that I’ll definitely suggest to that age group to read.
“I absolutely adored this! Bursting with beautiful writing and insanely lovable characters, Isabella Rockwell’s War is perfect for anyone who enjoys historical middle grade! I desperately want to read more from this author.”

Fantastic read August 24, 2012

I loved how it was written from a child’s viewpoint. Some books have gripping plots but are not very well written but Hannah Parry can and does both with flying colours. The contrast between places was great India to England, the streets to Kensington Palace. All in all a fantastic read!

…In colorful narrative the reader can almost smell Abhaya’s herbs and hear the roar and tumult of London’s streets and marketplace. The novel is filled with mystery and adventure and I highly recommend it.
