Winter Gardening
Regardless of whether your region’s winters are a perpetual chill or pleasantly moderate, gardening can have a lot of difficulties, but it also provides opportunities. Whether you are planning for your summer or spring planting, looking to grow fresh herbs and vegetables, or simply want to keep your favourite plants alive during the colder months, winter gardening provides a lot more options that you probably ever realized. There really is no reason for you not to keep your thumb green throughout the entire year.
A lot of gardeners just hang up their gardening tools for the winter and wait until the weather becomes warmer, but this should not be the case. Depending on your local weather, gardening during the winter may simply be less than the ideal, or you may be working with frozen soil which can remain rock solid for several months. Winter is also the best time to stock up on gardening supplies as most gardening centres usually offer great discounts to boost their winter sales. Regardless of the situation, winter offers any ambitious gardener an opportunity to explore many options that may not be available during the warmer seasons.
Do you wish to change or add the focus of your garden? A lot of plants can actually grow when grown together with a certain decorative plant, fruit or vegetable.

Companion Gardening
Companion gardening is just planting certain plants together because they will help each other grow and become healthier. It is said that companion gardening is even better than using fertilizers or artificial ways of letting plants grow because the plants can benefit from each other and it’s all a natural process.
Some of the basics of Companion Gardening:
• Tall plants are planted near shorter plants so they could some shade for the shorter plants. This works best between sunflowers and corn.
• Companion Plants can lure away pests from green leafy vegetables, and they can also attract beneficial insects to help in the pollination of flowers. For instance, aphids are attracted to plants like Nasturtium, this lures them away from the other plants in the garden.
• You can plant two plants on the same patch which will save you space and time.
• Incompatible Pairings include planting garlic and onions near peas and beans. Because doing so will stunt the growth of the peas and beans.
• It would be best for you to record what is happening in your garden via a logbook or a gardening journal so that you can observe which plants are good with each other and which plants are not.
