This book started with the tremendous fall of farmers in this modern edge which presented with the character of Brandon Turner. It shows how Turner?s dream of a bountiful harvest signifies Carter?s film production. The main two characters of the story are just back and forth of a same person presented with their dreams of producing either grains or a film. The story explores a balance between ambition and ethics, hope and despair, retribution and forgiveness.
With these characters, the story becomes daily life of every struggling person. Turner a farmer has seen catastrophic change in his way of life, tried to retain the legacy. But how he?s handicapped with the factory near his farmland trying to occupy his land. Carter brought an evolution to his thought from a self-absorbed filmmaker to a man seeking for redemption through an equity. Both Turner and Carter?s character speaks to the power of empathy and the importance of taking responsibility for our activities.
The book provides some complex narration of human relationships with the impact of modernization on rural lives. A moral dilemma comes in readers mind when facing the plot question regarding a collide between these two worlds. The question of justice, fairness and the true price of struggle.
