Nili Ariely’s book is built from small episodes, in which stars a toddler experiencing daily situations and checking the world’s boundaries. The girl discovers, for example, that the airplane is too high, the hug she gives the dog is too tight, the rain is too wet, the tea pot is too hot, to wear shoes is too hard, and eating plenty of sweets is just too much. After experiencing the boundaries of what’s allowed and what’s possible, she reaches the pleasant situation that is “just right”.
This book is meant for infants in the conceptual stage of understanding their own thinking and lingual processes. All situations are very much familiar to toddlers and grownups alike. The book is written and illustrated with grace and humor, in a simple style that captures the attention of young children. “If I” will make any toddler delighted and is recommended for story hour in kindergartens and nurseries.
