We know that stress and anxiety are serious problems. So what is mindfulness and how can it help you? The reason for writing this book is because I have been where you are standing. Many years ago, there were times when my life was so fraught with difficulty that I didn’t see how I could get through to the next day without needing some kind of help. Whether I expected therapists to help or prayed for divine intervention, the problems encountered were very much on a par with those that people all around the world are experiencing. Stress meant that I had too much to think about and that I couldn’t achieve everything that I needed to. Survival was all I could say I had done and even then, I hadn’t done it very well because the stress levels were always there to remind me of my own frailty.
When introduced to mindfulness in an ambiance of calm at a retreat, I suddenly found answers that I had been looking for all of my life and these answers told me that I had all the tools necessary to change the approach I had to life and to get much more out of life than I was currently able to achieve. The happiness that followed has been with me since the day I decided that mindfulness was the approach I needed to take. I now teach mindfulness to others and through that work have found that most people respond in the same way – letting positivity into their lives and finding their own measure of happiness.
