Scientists investigate a rash of recent birth defects, trying to uncover the cause. Mary, a research assistant, is anxious to meet the new research scientist, Dr. Celia Quinley. Celia has a strong affinity for her work and her study subjects. The two women become fast friends but when they achieve a breakthrough in their research, the unexpected occurs.
