Ten year old George Mutton has moved to the mysterious town of Mount Dusk. Tucked away on a secluded mountain, Mount Dusk is the perfect place for restless George to discover adventure, but he might get more than he bargained for.
George befriends dark-haired loner Charlie Redwin and together they uncover the startling mystery of two missing families who vanished hundreds of years ago. At first a seeming pest, George’s little sister Maggie eventually becomes an invaluable ally while Charlie’s twin sister Yvonne remains a mysterious presence. She appears to know the secrets of Mount Dusk, but is she at all what she seems? Can she be trusted to help them? The children endeavor to find the answers to all their questions, but they end up more personally involved in the mystery than they had ever imagined.
With disappearances, ghastly ghosts and trapped spirits, the children become suddenly entangled in the hidden evil of their town which has lain unseen for many centuries. Can they rid Mount Dusk of the horror haunting it? Or will they become just another chapter in its terrible secret history?

George Mutton and his family are moving from the country to a small village in the countryside, set in the foothills of the haunted Mount Dusk. He then discovers an old mystery enveloping the town between two of the oldest families that lived there and that the trees at the top of the mountain now contain the spirits of one of them. Then it appears that the Uncle of his new best friend Charlie is somehow involved. George then decides to try and unravel the mystery with the help of his little sister, to try and free the spirits and break the curse, all the while dealing with dark magic and an evil circus troupe that has somehow come back to life.
This is an enjoyable children's book that is well pitched at the 10-12 age range, though its a good read for adults as well. The language used is clear, understandable and descriptive allowing readers of all ages a chance to follow the well crafted plot that slowly grows to encompass more and more of the town as the story continues. The characters develop well throughout the course of the story and have good reasons for their actions whether for good or for ill. The background and magic in the book is fits in to the story and it remains consistent. There are a few moments which may be scary for younger readers, but I think most will enjoy watching the protagonists overcoming their fears in the story.
Overall, I would be happy to recommend this to readers.
I always enjoy having some children's book on hand for my work, and this one has a little intrigue to it with the title. When I see both children and adults, and then a mystery, it makes me think of something not too deep, which I think might be a nice little break.
This sounds like a great read for kids and grown ups alike. I personally like a good mystery no matter what age range it's aimed at. I know I will enjoy this book and so will my niece. This book will make a great addition to our library. Thanks for sharing.
