Long ago, in a time when few records were kept, Earth was evacuated. No one knows the reason, but they do know the result. There is little food, little medicine, and a slim chance of survival. Yet it is on one of these planets where there lives a boy named Nero. When one of the many petty criminals on the planet takes everything from him, he tumbles into the vast criminal underworld himself. And very quickly, as he grows up, he begins to make a name for himself.

On a world where morals are a luxury, and survival is the only goal, how far is Nero willing to go to survive, and to rise above his ignoble origins? And what happens when he begins to attract the attention of a most terrible and powerful organisation?
