On Pins and Needles is a collection of short poems inspired by other collections of stories like “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” by Alvin Schwartz, “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” by Shel Silverstein and “The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories” by Tim Burton. The odd fairy tales, contained, are short, sweet, but uniquely disturbing. “The Girl With No Eyes” is the first story among a collection of six. Though maybe a bit too disturbing for children, these stories are perfect for 6th grade and older as they contain a bit of hopefulness that offers some relief to the tightness of their themes.
