What was the inspiration for your book?
Having emigrated out Down Under myself, I always found it strange celebrating Christmas on the beach! Because the seasons in the Southern Hemisphere are upside-down, December is summertime and Christmas is more likely to be celebrated by a barbecue than by a log fire.
I thought it would be fun to write a “different” holiday romance, featuring a heroine experiencing a “Down Under Christmas” and finding love when she least expects it.
I’d always had a thing for “hot vets” (who doesn’t love a handsome man in sexy scrubs who is powerful & knowledgeable but gentle and caring too??) – so I thought I’d like to write a series set around an animal hospital and follow one of the vets in each story.
Tell us about the setting.
The stories are set in Summer Beach, a beautiful seaside town on the east coast of Australia, a couple of hours north of Sydney.
From the gorgeous white sand beaches to the delicious cafe meals out on the sunny terrace – this is a glimpse into the “Aussie way of life” and a chance to travel to Australia right from your sofa.
Readers always tell me how much they enjoy being able to travel to exotic locales through my books (eg. I have a romantic thriller series set in Singapore) and I wrote these stories with this in mind – so that a reader could almost feel like they’re arriving in Australia, listening to the quaint (and often hilarious!) slang, meeting the fascinating (and sometimes deadly!) native wildlife… and of course, enjoying a wonderful romance with a hot Aussie vet! ;-)
What makes this book a great read?
It’s pure escapism! :-) It’s a chance to escape Down Under for a few hours and get swept up in a sweet, feel-good romance while also experiencing “Aussie culture” first-hand and meeting some cute furry guest stars.
My books are famous for being “page-turners” and this novella can be read in one sitting – so whether you want a great story that you can escape into during a break or something to curl up with on a cosy evening, Playing Santa will leave you smiling and wanting more…
