Prayer: Recovering from the Religion of Prayer to Discover Spirituality that Leads to a Closeness and Devotion to God Never Thought Possible

I hardly believe that his intention was to identify an aspect of the human condition as a whole. Though it’s been nearly immortalized through pop culture, there is a greater truth relating to each and every one of us contained in the now iconic proclamation Vanilla Ice made about himself. “If you’ve got a problem, YO! I’ll solve it.” People love solving other people’s problems.
Opinions are offered about everything from How to escape Alcatraz to why Zebras actually are white with black stripes. Do you have a cold? Do this. Ever gotten lost? Do that next time. But at what point does the continual need to diagnose and define become problematic more than prosperous?
Most of my life has been spent learning about and believing in God. Most of that experience has revolved around the making sense of everything in the bible. Where this has become a problem for me is related to prayer. Prayer is central to a life of experiencing God. But it seems that the more people attempt to define and make sense of how, when, why, and where to pray, the more difficult it becomes; bringing about the sense of God being distant. I’ve discovered I am not alone in this dissatisfaction.
In this book, I do not attempt to answer any of those questions. The purpose is not to add more information to an already large definition of prayer; but to rather eliminate some of the roadblocks I’ve experienced to help begin the journey of prayer again.
