The trouble starts the day Iris Ivy’s replicate, Dandelion, arrives. She’s the same as Iris, exactly the same, except she isn’t. At least not to Iris.
The Compound loves to waffle on about how Residents are supposed to be thankful because if they need a new heart or lung or eye even, the replicate will have to give them theirs. Iris Ivy is only 15 though, so she doesn’t care about kidneys and intestines right now.
As if Dandelion isn’t bad news enough, Iris Ivy finds the scrounger after that. He tries to cause her extinction. He doesn’t succeed, but he does give her a spiteful little secret and it’s been burrowing around in her brain ever since.
Dandelion has a bright idea of how to leave the Compound. And though Iris Ivy would never admit it, she’s sort of relieved her replicate is coming too, because who better to bring along than yourself.
