“Hi, I’m Mike, and I have an empathy disorder.”
If there were support groups for Dr. Michael Blake’s condition, this is how he would introduce himself. But there aren’t and he probably wouldn’t go anyway.
So, instead, he spends his days working as a hospital diagnostician from inside the safe confines of his office; reading files, writing prescriptions, and saving lives.
This should be fulfilling, but his specific condition causes his body to experience the symptoms of his patients whenever he’s in the room with them, forcing him to diagnose from afar. Although this is for his own health and safety, the distance from his patients certainly weighs on him.
However, this forced distance is tested when the case of a young boy with what appears to be Type I Diabetes crosses his desk, forcing him out of his comfort zone and closer to the edge than he’s ever found himself.
Blake knows he can save the boy’s life.
The question is: How far will he have to go to do it?
