Picking up his mess is just too much for Ryan.

Between brushing his teeth, taking a shower, and being a kid, Ryan can’t be bothered with another chore. That is until his dad warns him about the Night Gnomes, who snatch up misplaced items and may claim them as their own.

At first, Ryan doesn’t listen, but when his discarded shoes go missing, he has no choice but to use his secret detective skills and so he braves the night in search of the mysterious gnomes. What he finds, though, is even more than he bargained for.

In this wonderfully illustrated, funny, rhyming bedtime story, young Ryan shares a few laughs while he unravels this mystery.

"A good children's book, with lovely artwork and a strong storyline."

The story of Ryan who never tidies up, until one night the things he left out started to disappear. He stays up late to find out why and gets a surprise...

The first thing that struck me about this book was the artwork. It is absolutely gorgeous, with full colour illustrations on each page. To make it even more useful to early readers it has an in-built app to enlarge text by clicking on it to make it easy to read. This does give it one downside, since my Kindle could not download it and I had to view it on Kindle's Cloud Reader.

The story is written in poetry throughout. There are a few strained rhymes and odd scansion, but nothing unusual for a children's book and the vocabulary is basic and easy to read. There were no spelling errors or grammar issues, although it is in American English. The plot is simple, direct, and ideal for children, although I do suspect the final lesson is not one that parents want children to learn.

Overall this is a good children's book, with lovely artwork and a strong storyline. It just loses a point because I couldn't load it onto a Kindle.

Stunning artwork indeed, and a fast-paced, very engaging storyline, if that is the right word. I planned to send this as an e-book gift to my godson, but it is currently only available in either paperback or audio download so I opted for the latter for now, (so I could hear it all), and have ordered the paperback for the birthday boy.
