......

Gwen Montague is a spoilt, little, rich, girl from Salem, whose only concern is the latest fashion, marrying someone rich, and living the rest of her life in luxury. When her father is arrested for a ponzi scheme, her world falls apart and her previous friends and fiance dump her completely. Left with a suitcase of clothes and nowhere to go, she is put up in a small room and the only job she can find is as a travel tour guide in her home town. Receiving a birthday gift of a necklace only adds to the trouble, when on her first tour, she manages to raise some zombies in the graveyard, only to be rescued by a vampire, Quinn. Turns out her mother used to be a Necromancer and Gwen appears to be even more powerful. Can Quinn and his werewolf friends, Henry and Ronnie protect Gwen as she finds out just how powerful she is?

This is a short, paranormal romance introducing us to Gwen Montague and the other paranormal denizens of Salem. The tone of the story is quite breezy despite the opening and the book does not dwell on anything for too long before skipping to the next scene. It is difficult to warm to Gwen. She starts off as a spoilt, rich, girl and even when things go wrong, she magically falls on her feet, getting a room and a job even if she has no clue what she is doing. However as the book progresses, the interactions between her and her friends and the general earnestness of the group begin to warm. The writing is witty, despite the rocky start, and it keeps the awareness of Gwen’s beginnings through the book and as it doesn’t take itself too seriously, it is light-hearted and easy enough to follow.

I didn’t see any issues with spelling and grammar were fine, although there are some issues with the formatting for the author’s other ebooks, one of which is repeated at the front and back of the story. There are several more books by the author, although one is repeated at the front and back of the ebook, so if you are interested, then there is both the next in the series and other stories as well.

Overall, this is a light paranormal romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is all the more enjoyable for it.
