...The stories themselves are well-written with some interesting ideas, and range from the funny to the poignant....
This is a collection of 15 short stories. The cover does not represent the content well – I nearly passed this one by thinking it was erotica. In thumbnail, the text describing it as short stories is hardly readable. That said, I am glad I picked it up.
The stories themselves are well-written with some interesting ideas, and range from the funny to the poignant. “Marvin’s Dead” stands out, even though it is short. Care and attention has been paid to grammar and spelling. If there were any errors, I was too engrossed in the stories to notice them.
That said, there is a real tragedy about this book: the writing is good, but unfortunately the formatting is not. It’s such a pity because the content is very good indeed. The stories are presented in a regrettable wall-of-text appearance, with a table of contents link hard against the bottom of each. The size of story titles varies, some bolded, some in H1. The titles are not centered and in some cases have no line space between them and the story text. A little more work here and this book would be great.
As it is I’m giving it three stars, (it lost one for formatting) and suggest that readers who can overlook the layout issues will find a set of short, well-written, stories that they should thoroughly enjoy.
