A medical study has shown that dancing can be used to cure homesickness in sailors away from home for long periods of time. To see if the research is of value a team of officers, one male and two female, are put together to prove it. As a result, the trio end up taking dancing lessons, hiring other dancers and engage in building a boat where they can run tests from. Finally, they have to put their ideas into practice as results are demanded by the Admiralty to show whether it is true.

This is a strange book to read. The main protagonist is not named or really described, though the remainder of the cast are detailed to a degree. The plot, such as it is, follows his actions and those of the team and are either a bizarre indictment of the folly of the military or is just plain bizarre in its own way. The writing is simplistic with most sentences being short covering just one point and the formatting of the book seemed to be off on my ebook reader. My biggest problem is that there is nothing to hook the reader in. The characters are bland in their interactions even though they have been described otherwise, the situation is truly nonsensical and it makes you wonder why such events are going on.

I’m really not sure what to make of it. I struggled through it, mainly because it was a novella, and I’m not sure I could have lasted a full novel. Pretty much the exact type of characters and writing style appear in a separate novella by the author and I doubt it will change in the future, so I will probably be passing on them.
