...It’s a collection of five nicely dark stories that most readers of mysteries horror and thrillers should enjoy....
A collection of five short stories, featuring murder, horror and intrigue. The author states that several of these had won awards in newspapers, and from the quality of writing I can believe it.
The first story, a Bouquet of Tea and Roses is good haunting horror, though the twist is not unexpected to anyone familiar with the genre. Of the remaining stories, The Devil to Play is another strong one which again does not go the way the reader expects, and the collection closes with The Dawning, possibly the strongest story in the set. A haunting tale of a hiker at an inn in the traditional mold, it is well written and wonderfully ambiguous at the close. The remaining two stories failed to hold my attention, regrettably.
The collection loads straight into the first story, although there is a working table of Contents at the front, if you click back a page. There is one small problem with this – my Kindle did not pick up the Table of Contents as an option on the menu, leaving me scrolling back to get to it each time. Otherwise the formatting and layout are fine, easy to read and have no notable issues.
Is it worth getting this? Yes. It’s a collection of five nicely dark stories that most readers of mysteries horror and thrillers should enjoy.
Overall I am giving it an extremely readable three stars.
