Read the book, if for no other reason than it takes a quite different position on the cause of social and ecological problems facing us today! It will be FREE from October 30 until November 1.
I began writing this book with the purpose of evolving a solution to global overpopulation, but as I researched it, I discovered overpopulation is only one of the entire gamut of ecological problems – all with a single parent.
One symptom, for example, is that the poorest 50% of the world’s population own less than a (decreasing) 1% share of the world’s wealth, while seven-tenths of 1% of the global population owns more than a 50% (increasing) share of it.
From there on, it became a series of astonishing discoveries, all having everything to do with the economic (and now political) system of capitalism on the planet. Practically all of what I found out was bad, not only for the poor, but also for the shrinking middle class, non-human species, and all the elements on and above Earth, including the planet itself. And it is ALL about money.
The book treats the parent problem, as well as overpopulation, and attempts to address the other brood of eco-problems secondarily. It analyzes the motives, power, and aspirations of the super-rich, as well as their impact on the planet. It also discusses the purpose of capitalism and compares it with its predecessor. It cannot avoid looking carefully at the middle class in this context. And it most certainly must examine the political system of democracy as it functions today in the developed countries.
The book is aimed squarely at the global middle class, which I term the “fortunate billion”. It takes a curious look at what we have done and not done in the context of the global situation today. And it would not be complete, if it did not attempt to look at our current situation through the lens of history.
